Structural Steel Workflow

Channel, tube, and angle — cut on the same laser bed, planned in the same software as your flat sheet work.

Structural work without a second machine

Most shops handle structural material somewhere else: a bandsaw, an ironworker, or a subcontractor. If your laser has the bed capacity, it can do that work — but flat-sheet nesting logic doesn't know what to do with a stick of channel.

This module adds the profile handling structural material needs: it works in lengths instead of sheets, knows which faces are being cut, and lays parts out along the stick so you get the most usable pieces with the least drop.

What it adds

Capabilities

C

Profile Types

Channel, square and rectangular tube, round tube, and angle. Define the profiles you stock once and reuse them across jobs.

L

Length Layout

Parts are laid out along the stick to minimize drop, the same way sheet nesting minimizes scrap — with kerf and cut spacing accounted for.

F

Orientation & Fixturing

Keeps track of which face is up and where the material is supported, so what you plan on screen is what the operator can actually clamp and cut.

S

Stock Lengths & Cost

Work from the mill lengths you actually buy. Stick length and stick cost sit alongside your sheet costs in Material Settings, so structural work prices the same way sheet work does.

J

One Job List

Structural parts sit in the same job list as sheet parts. No separate program, no separate export step, no retyping quantities.

R

Shop Reports

Cut lists and stick layouts your operator can work from on the floor, with material draw for the job.

Worth it if

Is this module for your shop?

Good fit

  • You already sub out or hand-cut structural material
  • Your laser bed has the capacity and you'd rather use it
  • Jobs regularly mix flat parts and structural members
  • Drop on structural stock is costing you real money

Probably skip it

  • You cut flat sheet only and always will
  • You run a dedicated tube laser that already covers this
  • Structural work is a rare one-off for you

Not sure? Send us a sample job and we'll tell you straight whether the module pays for itself.
